Puppy Development

The Peninsula SPCA is in the process of implementing a new Foster Program. In the course of our operations, we receive many pets that are too young or small, have health issues, or are too shy and scared to be adopted right away. It is these pets in need that we hope to enroll in our program and make them more adoptable in the future.

Currently our biggest program is for raising puppies and kittens that are too small or young to be in our shelter (under 2 pounds or 8 weeks of age). This can entail anything from bottle feeding these youngsters to just providing a loving place until they grow up a bit. These pets are then returned to
the SPCA to find permanent homes. In the future we hope to implement many different types of programs to make other types of pets more adoptable.

Currently the foster parents are responsible for any veterinary bills, food, and care that the pet needs - we also hope in the future to have these donated so that all the foster homes will provide is love and care.
If you are interested in fostering, please take a moment to look at the following documents:

You may fill out the General Foster Agreement and fax it to the SPCA at 757-595-9945 or drop it off during working hours. An Animal Control Officer or SPCA employee may visit your home to make sure that your home is suitable for animal care. If you rent your home, we will also need to contact your landlord. If you have any questions, please contact us or email us at info@peninsulaspca.com.
