
Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Peninsula SPCA! We hope you will join our SPCA team to make a difference in the lives of our animals. Our volunteers help hundreds of animals find loving homes through our foster care program, off-site adoption events, and assisting potential adopters find the perfect pet companion at the Peninsula SPCA.

If you would like to join our volunteer team and help us find forever homes for our amazing animals, please follow the steps below (Updated 1/16/2012).

Please read our volunteer requirements:
All volunteers must be 16 years of age or older to work at the SPCA. In order for our Dog Squad & Photographer volunteers to handle our dogs they must by at least 20 years old and complete our animal handling class. We have opportunities for parent and child volunteer teams, the child must be a minimum 13 years of age and accompanied by a legal guardian.
New Volunteer Fees:
1. $25 fee for individuals
2. $20 fee for students & military
3. $35 fee for parent & child teams
Volunteers fee is non-refundable fee (cash, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express) to help us offset the cost of volunteer
shirts, nametags, and training. Volunteers must be able to commit at least
4 hours per month. We encourage volunteers to have an up-to-date
tetanus vaccination, although it is not required.

If you meet our volunteer requirements, then download and return our volunteer application to the Peninsula SPCA. Once your volunteer application has been received you will be invited to a general interest meeting where you can learn more about the Peninsula SPCA, our volunteer program and meet with the Volunteer Coordinator to help find you the best match for your interests and abilities.

Once your volunteer application has been approved, our volunteer coordinator will schedule you for volunteer orientation. From there you will begin your volunteer service!


Event Managers provide guidance and accountability at offsite adoption and fundraising events. This includes set-up, breakdown, and financial accountability for each event.

Shift leaders take a lead role in your volunteer shift and assist new volunteers or other volunteers who may need additional training or guidance.
 
Spirit Leaders assist in decorating the shelter for holidays and up-coming community or SPCA events such as Fur Ball, Paws for a Cause, Decorate bulletin boards, and/or help produce volunteer newsletters.

Community Ambassadors assist in fundraising events, produce volunteer driven fundraising events and sales, organize celebrations and parties for volunteer donors and event volunteers tasks may include distributing promotional materials, taking pictures during events, event setup and clean up, selling tickets, and staffing our educational/adoption tables.

To better serve our animals and volunteers, we have divided our volunteer positions into two catergories: animal care team and adoption team.


Dog Squad volunteers enjoy a great deal of physical contact with the dogs. You must be at least 20 years old to handle our dogs and complete an animal handling class. Primary duties include walking our dogs, cleaning kennels, and providing food, water, and treats to our canines.

Purrr Pals to hug and snuggle our kitties! Purrr Pals are responsible for cleaning cages, minor grooming, and providing food, water, and toys to our precious felines.

Barnyard Buddies duties will include managing petting zoo activities such as reading barnyard stories, coordinating birthday parties, and help conduct group tours and maintain petting zoo entrance.


Matchmakers work to find the best match between potential adopters and our pets. Matchmakers' duties include engaging with our potential adopters.

Greeters welcome guests at the door and SMILE! They help answer guest's questions, direct traffic, and are in charge of first impressions.

Web Photographers are our artists! The pictures taken by our photographers will be showcased on our website, SPCA Facebook page, Petfinder.com, and Petango.com.

Foster Care Providers provide temporary care for our special pets that are too small, have health issues, and or are too shy to be adopted right away. For more information, click here.
