We are excited to to offer 12 new volunteer positions! Take a peek and
see what interests you!
Dog Squad volunteers enjoy a great deal of physical contact with the dogs.
Their primary responsibility is to ensure that our dogs are well cared
for and comfortable. Additionally, responsibilities may include walking
our dogs, cleaning kennels, socializing shy dogs, grooming, and providing
food, water, and toys to our pups.
Purr Pals get to hug and snuggle our kitties! The goal of the Purr Pals
is to ensure that our kitties are well cared for and comfortable. Purr
Pals are responsible for cleaning cages, socializing shy cats, grooming,
and providing food, water, and toys to our precious felines.
Matchmakers are our "sales" people, working to find the best match between
potential adopters and our pets. Matchmakers' duties include contacting
potential adopters, carefully reviewing adoption applications, showing
animals, and counseling potential adopters on expectations, animal behavior,
and the varying needs of our pets. Matchmakers receive additional training
to become familiar with our adoption policies and procedures, specific
breed behaviors, and assessing the needs potential adopters.
The Blue Team works in our administrative area by writing thank you letters,
entering data into the computer, preparing adoption packages, filing paperwork,
and answering phones. Some Blue Team members can opt to work from home!
Party Animals help to plan community events. Tasks may include distributing
promotional materials, taking pictures during events, performing event
setup and clean up, selling tickets, and manning our educational/adoption
tables. Party Animals will speak with the public about the SPCA and showcase
our adoptable animals. This is a great opportunity for volunteers who
prefer to volunteer occasionally or who prefer to work outside of the
SPCA.

Web Photographers are our artists! The pictures taken by our Web Photographers
will be showcased on our website and on PetFinder.com. Web photographers
are responsible for removing and returning animals from their kennels
and taking good pictures. Prior experience in digital photography is required
(camera will be provided) ... and lots of patience is required, too!
We have kitties at PETCO! The kitties selected
to stay at Camp PETCO are the cream of the crop .. they are the SPCA's
Feline Ambassadors! PETCO volunteers are responsible for providing full
service care to 6-8 cats. Volunteers may select either the morning or
evening shifts and each shift takes about 2 hours to complete. PETCO volunteers
clean cages, sterilize cleaning utensils, provide light grooming, transport
cats, and provide lots of love and cuddling. The shifts at PETCO require
a once weekly commitment or a rotating commitment every other week.

The Pet Education Team (P.E.T.) informs audiences (primarily children)
about SPCA pets and services. The P.E.T. Team emphasizes responsible pet
care, respect for wildlife, and compassion for all species. Volunteers
specialize in one of the following areas: leading educational tours of
the SPCA, giving classroom presentations to school children (K-6), or
assisting with day camps, summer programs, and birthday parties.

Foster Care Providers provide temporary care for kittens and puppies who
are too small for adoption or adult animals who have medical conditions
or behavioral issues. Fostering animals is a very time consuming and worrisome
job ... much like being a new parent! Animals that are eligible for foster
care are often times rescued from cruelty or neglect and need a special
kind of love and nurturing. People with breed-specific expertise, prior
medical experience, or plenty of time to spare are perfect for this high-responsibility
position.

Are you the kind of person that likes to give care to those MOST in need? If so, a kitty nurse might be just up your alley! The Peninsula SPCA is looking for volunteers who would be interested in working with our sick kitties while they get better! Volunteers would choose either a morning (come in anytime between 8am-11am) shift or afternoon shift (come in anytime between 3-6pm) and would require a once weekly commitment or a rotating commitment of every other week. Kitty nurses would be responsible for cleaning kitty cages, sterilizing cleaning utensils, provide light grooming, food and lots of love and cuddling. Kitty nurses may also be asked to give medication to kitties and will be trained.
